Harry Styles’ mum has hit back at trolls who have slammed his new shaved-headed look.
The One Direction star, 29, known for his luscious brown locks, debuted his new short hairstyle on Instagram ahead of the launch of fragrance brand Pleasing.
Reaction from the Watermelon Sugar hitmaker’s fanbase was extreme, to say the least, with some saying his new do had ‘ruined their entire life’ while others claimed they were ‘in tears’ and ‘grieving’ the loss of his curls.
While Harry has not addressed the comments, his mother Anne Twist stood in her son’s corner as she took a swipe at trolls.
Posting a picture of her son on her Instagram page, she also scathingly ‘uncrapped’ a headline about his haircut from ‘Harry Styles fans shocked over shaved head reveal: “Ruined my entire life”‘ to ‘Breaking news: It’s hair! It’s his! Also it will grow back. If he wants.’
In the caption, she wrote: ‘When you consider that H has a legacy of kindness and inclusion, has always made every effort to make everyone feel seen and appreciated for exactly who they are … there’s an irony in the negativity he’s been shown for having a haircut. Sorry but I don’t get it 🤷🏻♀️ #TPWK.’
Fans were quick to side with Anne, 56, imploring others to treat Harry ‘with kindness.’
One commented: ‘So sad that even his mum has to speak up about it. People on the internet are not able to treat someone nicely, who has given them nothing but love and positivity. We love you H, always.’
Another added: ‘Harry has created such a safe space for us, please let us repay him by also making a safe space for him! ❤️.’
Others said that Anne ‘shouldn’t have to defend her son’ against these comments, and apologised on behalf of those making jokes about his appearance.
‘You shouldn’t even have to post this. 😩 I’m sorry that people are acting like this over his hair. Personally, I think it looks good. I really hope he’s okay, after how cruel a lot of the comments are. 🫶🏼,’ one wrote.
It comes after the mum-of-two – who also has Harry’s older sister, Gemma – previously explained the reasoning behind his controversial new cut.
Talking in a TikTok video, an overjoyed fan recalled how she met Twist in Ikea, telling her she was a massive Harry fan.
She then asked if it was true that he had shaved his head, which Anne confirmed. The fan recalled: ‘I didn’t know what to do with this information.
‘Not only have I met the love of my life’s mother, she then tells me that he’s shaved his head!’
‘My dad then said, “Is it for a film or is it just for a change?”,’ the fan added.
Anne’s response was: ‘It’s because he’s on holiday, he fancied a change.’
